Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Our first destination is the enchanting Jardin Majorelle. Created by French Orientalist artist Jacques Majorelle and later owned by Yves Saint Laurent, this botanical garden is a tranquil oasis of exotic plants, bamboo groves, lily ponds, and vibrant cobalt blue buildings. After exploring the gardens, you'll have the option to visit the adjacent Yves Saint Laurent Museum, which showcases the designer's work and his deep connection to Marrakech (entrance tickets not included, best booked in advance).
Next, we'll head towards the Medina to see the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech. While non-Muslims are not permitted to enter, you can admire its impressive minaret, a masterpiece of Almohad architecture and a symbol of the city. We then proceed to the Saadian Tombs, a historically rich royal necropolis dating back to the 16th century, which was sealed up for centuries and rediscovered in 1917. Marvel at the intricate tilework and stucco in the mausoleums.
For lunch (not included), your guide will suggest a local restaurant within the Medina, where you can enjoy authentic Moroccan cuisine, such as tagine or couscous, in a traditional setting.
After lunch, we visit the magnificent Bahia Palace, a stunning 19th-century palace that showcases the best of Moroccan craftsmanship with its intricate marquetry, zellij tilework, and beautifully painted cedarwood ceilings. Explore its courtyards and opulent rooms. Following the palace, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant heart of Marrakech: Djemaa el-Fna square. This bustling UNESCO World Heritage site comes alive with storytellers, snake charmers, musicians, food stalls, and a myriad of entertainers.
Our tour concludes with a guided walk through the famous souks (traditional markets) of Marrakech. Navigate the labyrinthine alleyways filled with the aroma of spices, colorful textiles, leather goods, lanterns, and countless other treasures. Your guide will help you discover hidden gems and perhaps practice your bargaining skills. Afterwards, you will be escorted back to your hotel or riad, filled with the sights, sounds, and scents of the Red City.
